Salvete Ovid-lovers!
Thank you for joining Ovid’s Summer Book Club in our reading of the Metamorphoses!
Next week, from July 3-4, Scylla falls in love with the Cretan King Minos, who is besieging her homeland, and murders her father to be with him.
On July 4, after rejecting Scylla, King Minos returns to Crete only to be greeted by the Minotaur; which Daedalus imprisons and Theseus murders in the labyrinth; Daedalus and Icarus escape Crete.
From July 5-7, a team of famous heroes fight a gigantic bull sent by jealous Diana; a squabble over the spoils of the fight leads to murder; and Althaea avenges her murdered brothers by killing her husband through magic.
From July 7-9, after defeating the boar, Theseus visits the house of the river-god Acheloüs, and is treated to many fantastic tales of godly power and transformation, including those of Perimele, Baucis and Philemon, and Erysichthon.
Valete laetaque evolvens!
